One day you are going to need an architect. My friend, Betsy, has been raving for years about Perla Delson's taste and style. "Go visit her home in Brooklyn!" She always brow beats me. Though I know Perla, I haven't visited, but I have seen her home - the amazingly large space with the super long dining table running down one end. Recently written up as one of New York's 100 top architects and designers, her firm with Jeff Sherman, Delson or Sherman, has come into its own, and I am probably too late to ask for a visit now. Delson or Sherman (the "or" refers to the early days when they often had to work seperately to make ends meet), offers a full service architectural practice for residences, retail or institutional clients. If you are interested you would first give them a call and describe your project over the phone. The next step is a visit to you, after which they will draw up a proposal that can include everything from space planning to cabinetry to help with the interior design. What is the style? Perla says its "modern, spare, but not too severe...." They like color, and they like to work with vintage details already in place rather than wiping everything out starting from scratch. Problems? None unless you don't own your apartment, or have enough money to hire an architect. But one day.... MGR
