A+R quietly opened in late 2005 in Silverlake, located in the former space of 10ten. The shop showcases products for home and personal use by artists and design collectives from around the world. A+R stands for Andy Griffith and Rose Apodaca, the owners, but is also a nod to the A&R departments of music companies. "In the same spirit we are discovering new talent for our customers..." says Rose. A+R strives to present products that you can't get anywhere else in the city, or in the country in some cases. And while there are many stores in LA that stock great modern designs, A+R hopes to do it with a little less pretension. They cary "both the serious serious, and the serious fun!" Some of the hot ticket items are water bottles (like the disposable plastic ones) rendered in glass, Shane cast-resin belt buckles that depict blueprints of deer or scenes from an LA freeway, and the gun vases from Suck UK.
